Ron Paul

The media treated Ron Paul like they treat any person who is a potentially serious threat to the status quo. As Gandhi said, first they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.

Powell Tate is a well-known Washington DC-based lobbying, communications and public affairs firm. It specializes both in the conventional work of running public affairs programs and in media relations, but it also engages in grassroots (hidden or fake) operations and in surreptitious lobbying of politicians and their key minders.

CNN's Gloria Borger was just starting to grill Paul about the details of his involvement in the racist newsletters, when the candidate stonewalled her. "Why don't you go back and look at what I said yesterday on CNN and what I’ve said for 20-something years. 22 years ago?" Paul said right at the outset. "

No Pardon Precedent

Published: March 10, 2001
To the Editor:
Re ''The Pardons in Perspective,'' by Anthony Lewis (column, March 3): It takes a selective reading of history to credit any parallel between Bill Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich and George H. W. Bush's pardon of Caspar W. Weinberger.
The presumed link revolves around the assertion that both presidents may have personally benefited by their pardons: Mr. Clinton financially, Mr. Bush legally. Neither claim has been proved, and any benefit to Mr. Bush is disputed by the facts. Neither the Congressional Iran-contra investigation nor that of the independent counsel linked him to any illegal activity.
To believe that Mr. Weinberger was pardoned to prevent him from implicating President Bush in a trial may rank high on a scale of wishful thinking, but low in terms of probability.
