After appearing on the FBI Ten Most Wanted list for 12 years, Bulger was captured in Santa Monica, California, on June 22, 2011.[36][37][38][39]
A reward of US$2 million had been offered for information leading to his capture.[40][41][42] Bulger has been featured on the television show America's Most Wanted 16 times, first in 1995 and last on October 2, 2010. According to the authorities, the arrests were a "direct result" of the media campaign launched by the FBI in 14 markets across the country where the couple reportedly had ties.[43] The campaign focused on Greig, describing her as an animal lover who frequently goes to beauty salons.[43]

Hit man Johnny "The Executioner" Martorano admitted he was was sent to Miami to rub out Callahan. After admitting to 20 murders, Martorano was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Connolly was sentenced to 40.

READ The Full story of how Whitey and his brother, Billy corrupted and terrorised Boston for a Quarter Century

William 'Billy' Bulger jokes about how the bankers never wanted to have their picture taken with politicans.

Billy Bulger's brother is notorious Boston gangster James J. Bulger (Whitey) and had an illustrious career as a bank robber, woman strangler and cocaine dealer, oh yeah and serial killing. A Renaissance man.

He has been on the FBI's most wanted list now for well over a decade and is currently second to Osama Bin Laden.

Who else is on the list?
The list already includes an assortment of alleged murderers, robbers, drug dealers, and fraudsters. There's James "Whitey" Bulger, wanted in connection with Boston mob hits in the '70s and '80s, and Semion Mogilevich, an alleged investment fraud mastermind. Each new candidate must have "a lengthy record of committing serious crimes and/or be considered a particularly dangerous menace to society."

Excerpts:
1) 1960: Bulger's younger brother, William, is elected to the state House of Representatives. John Connolly, a childhood friend from South Boston, works on the campaign.

2) 1978: William Bulger becomes president of the state Senate and goes on to serve in the post longer than anyone in its history.

He added that he loves his brother and hopes that the most brutal rumors concerning him will be proven false. In addition, he grudgingly admitted to visiting an isolated pay phone in order to speak to his older brother, who was by then a fugitive. As fallout from these remarks, he was forced out by then-Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney from his position as president of the University of Massachusetts in 2003.
Bulger also testified that the FBI never asked if he knew of Whitey's location. Those remarks were disputed by a former FBI agent who claimed Bulger declined to submit to an interview with the bureau.[3] Months later, the committee report found Bulger's testimony "inconsistent" about whether the FBI had contacted him in its search for his fugitive brother.[3]
The controversy over the relationship between the two brothers, one a political leader, the other a crime boss, is further examined in a recent book The Brothers Bulger by Howie Carr published by Warner Books, New York in 2006.[4]

Excerpt:
Born in the West End section of Boston, Massachusetts, Mercurio grew up working in the family bakery in Malden, Massachusetts. He had a fleeting resemblance to actor Dayton Callie. After serving time in prison for stealing securities, Mercurio opened an Italian food shop in the Prudential Tower in Boston. Mercurio was soon working for the Patriarca family, serving as a liaison between the family and the Irish Winter Hill Gang in Boston. During the 1980s, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) obtained incriminating evidence on Mercurio by electronic surveillance at his food shop. The FBI had gathered enough evidence to indict him and others for extorting a couple of elderly bookmakers. In order to avoid a prison term, Mercurio became an FBI informant in 1987.[1]

Whitey Gets What He Wants

Whitey Bulger detested drunks and drank very little himself.   He felt that people who drank to excess were weak and inferior.  But his personal feelings about alcohol consumption didn't keep him from wanting a liquor store.  While driving around South Boston with Stephen Flemmi in the last week of December 1983, he spotted one he liked and decided he'd buy it.  He'd been looking for a new hangout, and Stippo's Liquor Mart on

Flemmi took a seat at the table, picked up Rakes's two-year-old daughter, and set her on his lap.   He then took out his gun and laid it on the table in front of the toddler, who immediately reached for it.  She picked it up and started to gum the butt.
According to the Boston Globe, Bulger turned to Rakes and allegedly said, "It would be a shame not to see your children grow up."

In the first week of January 1984, Bulger and Flemmi showed up at the store owner's home.   Bulger laid a bag full of cash on   Stephen Rakes's kitchen table -- $67,000 -- and informed Rakes that they were buying the liquor store.  Rakes said his business wasn't for sale, but Bulger's icy stare made him nervous, particularly because his two young daughters were in the room.

Prior to Morelli’s death in the early 1950s, Teresa said Morelli confessed to him that his gang was responsible for the 1920 murders for which Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were executed. The trial of Sacco and Vanzetti for the double murder of two shoe company employees in South Braintree, Massachusetts drew national attention because the two were self-described anarchists who claimed they were being persecuted by the government. According to Teresa, Morelli told him, “These two suckers took it on the chin for us. That shows you how much justice there really is.”

“We are in a recession and instead of Carnahan taking the time to meet people face to face at a very minimum cost; he decides to send out costly ad letters – and on the people’s dime. He is beyond out of touch,” said Martin spokeswoman Theresa Petry. “It’s not just bad politics it’s poor judgment.”
