Excerpt:
John Ashbrook is one of the exceedingly rare breed in political life: a man at once of principle and of skill and experience in practical politics. Concerning that first characteristic, Wm. F. Buckley Jr. remarked several years ago: "He shows the kind of political courage by which one distinguishes between those automatons who represent us in Washington and those special others who are human beings endowed with mind and an active conscience… a human force in which the high qualities of the statesman come together in profusion." The second is attested by the success with which he has pursued his political career from his leadership of the Young Republican organization and his election to the Ohio Assembly in 1956 through his six successive elections, in spite of two gerrymanders specifically against him, to Congress.
No vote for John Ashbrook will be wasted.

Excerpt:
Sudden death and legacy
In 1982, after announcing his intention to seek the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Howard Metzenbaum, Ashbrook died suddenly and unexpectedly of a massive gastric hemorrhage.[2]
His wife, Jean Spencer Ashbrook, was chosen in a special election to serve the remainder of his Congressional term.
The Ashbrook Center for Public Affairs at Ashland University is named for Ashbrook. A periodic John M. Ashbrook Memorial Dinner at the center features leading conservative speakers from President Ronald Reagan (first dinner; dedication of the Center, in 1983[3]) and Margaret Thatcher (1993) to John Boehner (scheduled for June 11, 2011).[4]

Scary part is that The principles he's arguing for,...are word for word what the "Tea Party" is advocating. Today the Tea Party is saying that are they are being accused of Right Wing Extremists,...yet, this all came from a Democrat Congressman in 1983!! That shows you how far to the left this country has drifted. If it goes any further left,...it will look like Soviet Era Russia.

RELATIVES OF KAL 007 VICTIMS WANT ANSWERS:
WILL PETITION BUSH AND PUTIN

Washington, D.C. — Relatives of passengers aboard Korean Airlines Flight 007 who disappeared when it was hit by a missile from a Soviet fighter in 1983 will hold a News Conference at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 14, at the Army & Navy Club, 901 17th St., N.W., Washington, D.C. They will present evidence that the Soviet claim that all aboard died when the plane crashed into the ocean near Sakhalin Island on August 31, 1983, is false. After the briefing they will deliver petitions to the White House and the Russian Embassy addressed to President Bush and President Vladimir Putin. The petitions, signed by hundreds, ask them to find out what happened to the 269 men, women and children aboard the plane.

In December 1991, Sen. Jesse Helms wrote to President Boris Yeltsin, pointing out that 256 passengers had vanished without a trace. The Russians found the remains of only 13 at most. Senator Helms asked Yeltsin to explain what happened to the rest. If they were killed, why was there no trace of them and their personal belongings in the largely intact cabin found in relatively shallow water on the ocean floor? Senator Helms wanted to know what happened to those people. If they died, where are their bodies? If they survived, where are they?

Around May of 1983, approximately 4 months before being shot down in KAL007, Congressman Larry McDonald takes on Pat Buchanan and Tom Braden on Crossfire as they badger him about his new role as Chairman of the John Birch Society. He easily handles them and answers questions concerning the Elite's Conspiracy for a One World Government.

Mr McDonald was aware that Mr Braden was a member of the CFR but i don't believe he was aware that Mr Buchanan is a member of the Knights of Malta!

Thomas Wardell Braden (February 22, 1917 – April 3, 2009)[1] was an American journalist, best remembered as the author of Eight is Enough, which spawned a popular television program, and was co-host of the CNN show Crossfire.[2] Braden was born in Greene, Iowa and died in Denver, Colorado.[1]

The show is centered around a Sacramento, California family with eight children (from oldest to youngest: David, Mary, Joanie, Susan, Nancy, Elizabeth, Tommy, and Nicholas). The father Tom Bradford (Dick Van Patten) was a newspaper columnist for the fictional Sacramento Register. His wife Joan (Diana Hyland) took care of the children. Hyland was only in four episodes before falling ill; she was written out for the remainder of the first season and died 12 days after the first episode aired.

Personal life and death
Hyland married Joseph Goodson in 1969; they divorced in 1975. They had one child, a son, Zachary.
Later that year, Hyland was diagnosed with breast cancer, and underwent a mastectomy.[1] The next year, she began a romantic relationship with the actor John Travolta after meeting him on the set of the television movie The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.[2] Despite the mastectomy, her cancer continued to spread, and her health deteriorated. Hyland and Travolta remained together until her death, on March 27, 1977 in Los Angeles. Diana, who was 18 years older than Travolta, died in his arms.[2]

Lost love: Travolta with Diana Hyland and her son, Zachary in 1977, the year she died from cancer
Lost love: Travolta with Diana Hyland and her son, Zachary in 1977, the year she died from cancer
He later told me: ‘I was with her all through the night before she died. I held her, touched her, all through those hours.
‘I always feel she is with me – I mean, her intentions are. Diana always wanted the world for me in every possible way.’
Diana was cremated, and at the subsequent memorial gathering at her home, Travolta wore the white suit he had bought for a trip they had planned to Rio.
He never donned it again. Like a bridal gown, it was wrapped and boxed and sent to his childhood home in Englewood, New Jersey.
It was an experience that affected John deeply and irrevocably. There’s always been a sense of detachment about the actor, even when he’s fooling around or trying to convince you – and himself – that he will start the diet next week.
His sister Ellen once explained to me: ‘He was devastated not only by the loss but because there was nothing he could do.
‘Until Diana’s death, John felt in control of his own fate and had never experienced anything tragic. He was never the same. Something like that changes you for ever.’
John threw himself into work but after fulfilling his commitments on the Saturday Night Fever set, he hid away from the world.
He turned down the Richard Gere role in American Gigolo and found himself more and more drawn to the Scientology movement, to which the actress Joan Prather had converted him the previous year.
He has remained a practising Scientologist ever since and his beliefs will no doubt provide some comfort.
The Travolta clan will also pull together. John has always been the one to organise family get-togethers, personally flying his brothers and sisters to and from his home, and now they will be there for him.
And now, of course, he has Kelly and their eight-year-old daughter, Ella Blue. Their family will never be the same but they will have each other to turn to in their grief.
It seems so unfair that John, in particular, should have suffered so much loss in his life. My prayers and thoughts go out to him and to Kelly at this desolate time.
