 Shearer served in the Clinton administration as an economics official in the Commerce Department, then as ambassador to Finland (1994-97). After diplomatic service, Shearer was a fellow at the Economic Strategy Institute and the Woodrow Wilson Scholars Center. He also was a visiting Woodrow Wilson fellow and ambassador-in-residence at a number of colleges. He served as a foreign policy advisor to Vice President Al Gore during the 2000 presidential campaign and as an advisor to Sen. Hillary Clinton during the 2007-08 presidential primaries.

Shearer's articles on foreign affairs and public policy have appeared in The New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, and the Wall Street Journal, among other publications. He has written many scholarly and policy articles and lectured at leading universities in Europe, Asia, and Australia. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a U.S.-Japan Leadership Fellowship, and a Swedish Bicentennial Fellowship, among other honors.

Clinton's closest friends.  Roger Altman (former Sec. of Treasury)
stated, "Derek is a very old and close friend of Bill Clinton's, and
among the advisors he is probably the oldest and closest friend." 
George Stephanopolis describes Shearer as both "a friend and advisor". 
Derek Shearer is the step-brother of Strobe Talbott, who was the former
editor of TIME magazine, and Bill Clinton's roommate at Oxford.  Derek's
sister, Brooke Shearer, is a very close friend of Hillary Clinton, and
is her frequent travelling companion.  Prior to the 1992 election,
Clinton appointed Shearer as his top economic advisor (Wall Street
Journal - Sept. 11, 1992).

In 1980, Shearer wrote a book titled, "Economic Democracy: The Challange
of the 1980's", in which he explained, "Socialism has a bad name in
America and no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that... the
words, economic democracy are an adequate replacement."  Shearer
proposed the economic dismantling of American's free enterprise system
and that all businesses be controlled by government socialist planners. 
Shearer states that his 'economic democracy' is fashioned in part
according to the teachings of Antonio Gramsci, founder of the Italian
Communist Party, and one of this century's formost Marxist theoreticians
(from Shearer's book).  In the 1970's Derek Shearer created and ran the
platform of Tom Hayden in Santa Monica, California.  The platform was
called the Campaign for Economic Democracy.  Shearer's wife was elected
mayor of Santa Monica, and she appointed Derek and fellow activists to
the City Commission.  Shearer's anti-business edicts crippled Santa
Monica's economy and earned that city the nickname of the "Peoples
Republic of Santa Monica."  Shearer has spoken of a plan to elect a
socialist minded President who would help advance his Economic Democracy
program (National Review, Sept. 14, 1992).

STROBE TALBOTT, as mentioned above, is the step-brother of Derek
Shearer, and formerly an editor of TIME magazine, and earlier a roommate
of Bill Clinton's at Oxford.  Talbott is a member of the Council on
Foreign Relations (CFR).  Since it's founding in 1921, the CFR has been
dedicated to forming a socialist world government under the auspices of
the U.N. Other members of the CFR, include IPS co-founder, Richard
Barnet, and Cora Rubin (dau. of Samuel Rubin), Bill Clinton, Al Gore,
and most of Clinton's cabinet.

While the Sotheby's scandal's endgame commenced officially with Dede Brooks's guilty plea and accusation of former chairman Al Taubman on October 5, she has been preparing for it for some time. Brooks, the former Sotheby's chief executive, moved swiftly after the crime was revealed to shift a few key assets. In March, she and her husband bought a $4.23 million oceanfront home in the Wasp enclave of Jupiter Island in Hobe Sound, Florida. Florida's homestead law conveniently prevents houses from being seized in bankruptcy proceedings.

For Brooks, a Yale-educated golf fanatic who grew up on Long Island's North Shore, Hobe Sound will provide familiar comforts. "Even after jail, Dede will still have a very privileged life," notes a jaundiced observer, adding that Brooks frequents the exclusive Jupiter Island Club.


"Her circle and Al's don't really overlap," observes a young decorator with a similar background. "She'll retreat to Waspdom. With Waspy people, no matter what you do, it's okay so long as you are one of them."


Though Taubman may be blamed for Sotheby's troubles by Wasps, he is unlikely to be left out of the social whirl in more cosmopolitan Manhattan. A bon vivant, Taubman has spent decades cultivating the rich and titled with globe-girdling sporting trips in his private jet.


"A lot of people are sympathetic to him," says a patrician writer. "This Sotheby's stuff seems such small potatoes. It's not a crime against humanity."

American International Corporation

Soviet Russia was allowed to emerge from the destruction of World War II as one of the victors, solely because she was needed as the next "evil empire" against which the civilized West could launch a new Crusade. Because Russia was bankrupt, had lost 40 million of her population in the war, plus another 66 million murdered by the Bolsheviki since 1917, and was unable to feed herself, once again the World Order was obliged to step in with enormous subsidies of food and material from the U.S., in order to maintain an "enemy power". The Belgian Relief Commission of 1916 became the Marshall Plan of 1948. Once again, the loads of supplies were shipped into Europe, ostensibly for our Allies, but destined to maintain the Soviet bloc.
Although Jacob Schiff's personal agent, George Kennan, had regularly toured Russia during the latter part of the nineteenth century, bringing in money and arms for the Communist revolutionaries ([Schiff's] grandson said that Schiff had spent $20 million to bring about the Bolshevik Revolution) more concerted aid was called for to support an entire regime. Kennan also aided Schiff in financing the Japanese in the Russo-Japanese War of 1905; the Japanese decorated Kennan with the Gold War Medal and the Order of the Sacred Treasure.
In 1915, the American International Corporation was formed in New York. Its principal goal was the coordination of aid, particularly financial assistance, to the Bolsheviks which had previously been provided by Schiff and other bankers on an informal basis. The new firm was funded by J.P. Morgan, the Rockefellers, and the National City Bank. Chairman of the Board was Frank Vanderlip, former president of National City, and member of the Jekyll Island group which wrote the Federal Reserve Act in 1910. Directors [of AIC] were:

Cecile Richards reflects on the silencing of Margaret Sanger and the era that gave us the phrase, "Banned in Boston." "You all know that I have been gagged. I have been suppressed. I have been arrested numerous times. I have been hauled off to jail. Yet every time, more people have listened to me, more have protested, more have lifted their own voices." Thus read Arthur Schlesinger, Sr. in 1929 as Margaret Sanger sat silent beside him on the stage of Ford Hall, banned under court injunction from speaking herself. Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, reflects on the meaning and the messengers of that event.
