Being the child of a parent who has narcissistic personality disorder or is simply a narcissist is extremely challenging. The person grows up deferring to the parent as the main person in the room always. They are not at all allowed to feel or have problems. They are consistently having to fight for any and all attention as the parent is the only one allowed to have problems of feelings. This video talks about this syndrome and also about how people might begin to free themselves from this type of suffering existence in their own adult relationships.

GARSON NEMESIS' DEAL CRUMBLES
Wednesday, July 21th 2004, 7:17AM
A WOMAN WHO wore a secret recording device to help investigators bring down a corrupt Brooklyn divorce judge suffered a child-custody setback of her own yesterday in Brooklyn Criminal Court when a deal collapsed.Frieda Hanimov filed for divorce four years ago, but gave up nearly everything - including rights to a $700,000 home - after Judge Gerald Garson recommended she settle her case in order to keep custody of the couple's three children, she said.
But her husband, Yuri Hanimov, later challenged the custody ruling in front of Garson, claiming she had beaten their 14-year-old son.
After Garson appointed lawyer Paul Siminovsky as the son's legal guardian, Garson handed temporary custody of the boy to the father. Frieda Hanimov went to Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes and agreed to wear a wire for eight months to get evidence of wrongdoing.
Garson has since been indicted on bribe-receiving charges for allegedly fixing cases for Siminovsky in exchange for drinks, dinners, cash and cigars. He has pleaded not guilty. No charges have been brought against Yuri Hanimov.
In July 2002, Garson ordered the boy into his dad's care, denying Frieda visitation for six months. When Garson ordered Frieda to bring her other two children to court, she reached out to Hynes, she said.
"I saw all these women in the same situation," Frieda said of Garson's courtroom. "He was calling me a criminal. Everything was going against me."
Since Garson's arrest, Frieda Hanimov has gathered together alleged victims of his in a bid to get state officials to better protect the rights of divorcées.
Yesterday, Yuri - who now lives in Florida - and Frieda tentatively agreed she would get full custody of the kids and he would get to see them regularly.
As the boy waited outside the courtroom, the couple and their lawyers spent hours trying to hammer out details. But the deal overseen by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Michael Ambrosio fell through when the couple could not ensure the new law guardian that the boy, now 16, could continue at an expensive religious boarding school.
They are set to return to court in October. nkatz@edit.nydailynews.com
