The aide who was killed on Sunday, Jan Mohammed Khan, served as governor of Oruzgan Province until 2006, when he was removed at insistence of Dutch officials over concerns that he was linked to drug rings. Since then, he had been a regular presence at the presidential palace.
He was killed alongside Mohammed Hasham Watanwal, a member of Parliament from Oruzgan.
The killing was another potentially heavy blow for Mr. Karzai, whose powerful half brother Ahmed Wali Karzai was assassinated on Tuesday by a close associate in southern Afghanistan. It also heightened concerns that militants were trying weaken the president’s standing and unravel the tenuous security gains in the still-violent south after months of intensified fighting by NATO and Afghan forces.

Assassination
On July 17, 2011, two-three men stormed Khan's home in Kabul and killed him and MP Hasham Watanwal; some sources claim that his bodyguards were killed as well.[5][6] The attack began with a small explosion and bursts of gunfire, according to eyewitnesses.[7] While one attacker was killed, at least one other attacker blew himself up.[8] Some reports indicated a third attacker occupied Khan's home and were involved in a firefight with the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police.[5] Afghan law enforcement had captured one attacker, who was carrying an AK-47 and a grenade launcher, while another attacker continued the firefight from a bathroom.[6]
The Taliban took responsibility for Khan's assassination.[5][7] They stated that Khan's killing was a punishment for all his deeds in the past. Members of the Afghan National Assembly accused Pakistan's ISI spy network of supporting "terrorist" attacks in Afghanistan for their own agendas.[9]
Together with the killing of Ahmed Wali Karzai, the international media read the killing as creating a potential turf war for control of Kandahar that could embolden the Taliban and reverse NATO gains in the regions. This comes in addition to the withdrawl of 3,000 Canadian ISAF troops and the start of the US drawdown of troops.[10]

“Although his personality is generally quite agreeable, Mr. Murdoch has no loyalty to anyone or anything except his company,” writes Black, former owner of Telegraph Newspapers, a competitor of News International. “He has difficulty keeping friendships; rarely keeps his word for long; is an exploiter of the discomfort of others; and has betrayed every political leader who ever helped him in any country, except Ronald Reagan and perhaps Tony Blair.”
He continues: “All (Murdoch’s) instincts are down-market; he is not only a tabloid sensationalist; he is a malicious myth-maker, an assassin of the dignity of others and of respected institutions, all in the guise of anti-elitism … His notions of public entertainment and civic values are enshrined in the cartoon television series The Simpsons: all public officials are crooks and the public is an ignorant lumpenproletariat.”

Excerpt:Trireme Partners LP wiki is a limited partnership venture capital company that invests in technology, goods, and services related to homeland security and defense.
Company chairman is Richard N. Perle while Henry Kissinger is a member of its advisory board. Trireme Partners LP was registered in Delaware in November 2001, two months after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Boeing is one of the investors in Trireme.[1]
"The two other policy-board members associated with Trireme are Henry Kissinger, the former Secretary of State (who is, in fact, only a member of Trireme’s advisory group and is not involved in its management), and Gerald Hillman, an investor and a close business associate of Perle’s who handles matters in Trireme’s New York office." [1]
The name "Trireme" is taken from a Greek warship with three banks of rowers.
Trireme also has Hollinger's Conrad Black on the board of directors, and was set up by Perle's Defense Policy Board pal Gerald Hillman (CDT, Cambridge Display Technologies), which Hollinger also invested highly in. [2]

Perle was a Director of Hollinger from June 1994. A biogrpahical note on the company's website at the time stated that Perle was Co-Chairman of Hollinger Digital Inc., the media management and investment arm of Hollinger [5][11]. It also mentioned that Perle was "a Director of Jerusalem Post", another subsidiary of the company, and that he had served as a director of GeoBiotics. [6]
Perle and Black are now (2004) estranged and have accused each other of wrongdoing in the looting of Hollinger assets. The Breeden Report, which cataloged the accusations against Black by the now-independent Hollinger directors, singled out Perle, among all of the corporate directors, for criticism: "As a faithless fiduciary, Perle should be required to disgorge all compensation received from the company". [12]. In October 2004, Hollinger amended its lawsuit against Black to include Perle as a defendant, asking for $22.9 million, including the $5.4 million of his compensation. [7].

Perle's Role in Hollinger
Perle had close business ties with Conrad Black, former chairman of Hollinger International Inc., which at one time owned more than 400 daily and weekly newspapers in Canada, the United States, Britain, Israel and Australia. Hollinger papers included London's Daily Telegraph, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Jerusalem Post. Black, a Canadian, joined fellow media kingpin Rupert Murdoch in defending British Prime Minister Tony Blair's decision to stick with Bush's war aims, despite overwhelming domestic opposition.Perle was a Director of Hollinger from June 1994.
