To show your support, all you have to do is choose a project and then vote for it by making Yahoo! your homepage. Each week, we’ll tally the number of votes each project gets. The projects with the most votes will receive up to $600 in funding from Yahoo!.
New for this year, we’re giving supporters the opportunity to earn more votes by answering the weekly trivia questions. Each correct answer earns your project another vote.

Between August 22 and October 16, 2011, Yahoo! is going to donate $200,000 to the teacher’s projects that generate the most votes. That means, each week for eight weeks, we’ll be putting $25,000 (maximum funding of $600 per project) directly into classrooms near you. The Yahoo! Homepages for Homerooms program is an easy, no-cost way for communities to support local classroom projects. Between August 22 and October 16, 2011 at 11:59 pm ET, Yahoo! will provide $200,000 in funding to the classroom projects that get the most votes. Anyone can vote for a project by making Yahoo! their homepage and answering weekly extra credit trivia questions.
How does making Yahoo! my homepage help classroom projects?
By making Yahoo! your homepage, you receive a vote towards the project of your choice. Each week, projects that get the most votes will receive $600 in funding (or the amount required to fully fund the project if less than $600) from Yahoo! via the DonorsChoose.org site. Yahoo! will donate a guaranteed total of $25,000 per week or $200,000 by program’s end. Each week begins on Monday at 12am E.T., and ends on Sunday at 11:59pm E.T. Projects that don’t receive funding in a give week will retain votes going into the next week

The program will run for eight weeks, from Monday, August 22, 2011, through Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
How can I tell how many votes a project has received or if it has been funded?
Active projects list the number of votes received (homepages + additional votes earned) on the main Projects listing page (to the right of each project summary), and on each individual project details page. Check back at yahoo.homepagesforhomerooms.com after October 17, 2011, for a list of all the projects that received funding from Yahoo!.
How will Yahoo! use my email address?
Entering a valid e-mail address is required to ensure your homepage is counted towards your project of choice. You will also receive emails twice a week for the duration of the program inviting you to participate in extra credit trivia questions via email. What is the Extra Credit Quiz?
It’s a great way to show even more votes for your project. Twice a week, for the duration of the program, we’ll send you an email with a link to a trivia question. If you get that question right, you’ll earn another vote towards your project. Votes will be automatically applied to the project you chose when you first made Yahoo! your homepage.
Do I have to participate?
No. We’ll send you an email inviting you take part in order to earn more votes for your project, but you’re free to unsubscribe from the email or simply not participate.
How many extra votes can I earn?
You’ll have the chance to earn an additional two votes per week for a total of 16 votes for your project.
How do I answer the questions?
You’ll be sent an email with a link that takes you straight to the Extra Credit page on our site. You'll be asked to log in using the email address you used to vote for your project. You can also go to the Yahoo! Homepages for Homerooms site directly and log in using the button in the top right corner of the Webpage.
What sort of trivia questions will I be asked?
You’ll be asked multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions that cover everything from international news to pop culture. The Yahoo! network covers it all, so study up!
What happens if I don’t answer correctly?
We’ll give you access to a Yahoo! search bar to quickly research answers, and also a tip that will help you find the correct answer. If you still answer incorrectly, we’ll ask you to try again.
